My God I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.
The Importance of Teaching the Act of Contrition
Teaching a child the Act of Contrition is one of the most important things you can do as a Catholic parent. It teaches children that sin offends God and we should constantly seek to reconcile ourselves to God by admitting we have done wrong and asking for forgiveness.
Teach each verse of the prayer separately as younger children may have difficulty at first memorizing the prayer.
